Motorcycling Books

Many great books have been published on motorcycling, and I have purchased and read several of these books. I have included some brief comments on each book and included the ISBN to make the book easier to search for on the internet or find at your local retailer.

  • Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well. (ISBN 1-889540-53-6). This is one of the best books I have on motorcycling. David Hough goes through many important topics and has a very easy to read style. I will be reading this book many more times as my experience continues to grow.

  • More Proficient Motorcycling: Mastering the Ride. (ISBN 1-931993-03-3). This is another of my best motorcycling books. David Hough continues to cover more topics and the character of this book is similar to his earlier book. Similar to the first book, I have reread this one and will do so again in the future.

  • The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles (ISBN 1-59257-303-7). This is a good beginner book and helps provide some of the basic information taught during the classroom portion of the motorcycle safety class. As with most books of this type, the information is basic and a deeper understanding is not generally provided.

  • Leanings 2 (ISBN 0-7603-1158-7). This book is a series of short stories and essays about motorcycles and motorcycling. I just recently picked this book up and I look forward to reading it.

  • Street Strategies: A Survival Guide for Motorcyclists. (ISBN 1-889540-69-2). This is the book that describes many of the hazards of motorcycling and how to avoid them. While this book is not as fun to read as Proficient Motorcycling or More Proficient Motorcycling, David Hough demonstrates his vast motorcycle safety experience in this book.

  • American Motorcyclist Association Ride Guide to America (ISBN 1-884313-51-5). This book is filled with color photos and color maps. I am looking forward to following some of the routes described in this book.
